In todays world, it can be hard to believe that anyone is still out whaling, a practice that has been strictly regulated by different countries for many years. The damage done to whales and their environments in the past is a difficult problem to fix, but this hasn't stopped many fishing vessels from attempting to whale illegally. The only thing standing between these ships and the whales they're attempting to catch is Paul Watson and his crew of devote environmentalists, the stars of the Animal Planet show "Whale Wars."

The founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Paul and his team of experts use a fleet of advanced ships to help in their fight against the illegal whalers. Using different tactics, from throwing stink bombs onto other ships, to boarding the actual ships themselves, the team works to harass these whalers until they have no choice but to give up whaling and return to port, before killing any whales. Often times, the whalers refuse to back down, going as far as attempting to ram the Sea Shepherd's ships, as well as even taking members who board hostage. The members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society know the risks they take, but also know the importance of what they're attempting to do, giving them no choice but to attempt and stop the whalers at all costs.

The Sea Shepherds and their use of extreme measures to save the whales make for a highly entertaining show, with the members quite literally risking their lives on open waters to save the animals they believe in protecting. Their dangerous missions and interesting technology make for a great watch, leaving audiences wondering just how far these souls will go to thwart the whalers they so greatly despise.

Whale Wars Full Episode Guide

  • The battle to stop whaling reaches its apex as the Bob Barker and a Japanese harpoon ship collide. Sea Shepherd's only hope is to track the whaling fleet by helicopter, but poor weather conditions block communications and freeze instruments.

  • With a brutal storm looming and crew members refusing to obey orders, rookie campaign leader Peter Hammarstedt has his work cut out for him.

  • In the sixth season premiere, Sea Shepherd prepares for their 10th anti-whaling campaign in the Antarctic, but for the first time they are without Captain Paul Watson. Peter Hammarstedt assumes the role as campaign leader, but a single misstep could cost hundreds of whales their lives.

  • The fifth season closes with success for the Sea Shepherd's months-long search for the Nisshin Maru, but the factory ship is well-protected and won't give up without a fight.

  • When the radar locates a massive target, the Sea Shepherd sends out their new helicopter pilot to ID the mystery vessel. But as the helicopter reaches the limits of its fuel range, it abruptly disappears, crashing into radio silence.

  • With three activists aboard the Japanese security vessel, Capt Paul Watson hopes the media frenzy will force the Shonan Maru 2 to retreat. Meanwhile, the crew of the Steve Irwin become involved in their most violent battle yet.

  • The crew of the Brigitte Bardot have a difficult time evacuating the ship; captain Paul Watson sends a team to board the heavily armed security vessel.

  • An order to evacuate is issued by the captain of the battered Brigitte Bardot with a Japanese security vessel in sight. Meanwhile, the Bob Barker's crew intend to disable a harpoon ship in Antarctica.

  • Captain Paul Watson's interception of the whaling fleet plan reaches a critical point. Gary Dukes, The Steve Irwin helicopter pilot, sees a ship and approaches it. The Sea Shepherd would claim the earliest victory ever if it's the Japanese whalers' factory ship.

  • In the Season 5 opener, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society responds to Japan's 2011 announcement to resume its whaling operations in the Antarctic and the government's claims to add to the fleet's security.
