Jenny Lee's first-person memoirs inspired this period drama about the nuns and nurses of Nonnatus House, who visit the expectant mothers of Poplar, providing the poorest women with the best possible care during childbirth.

The eighth season of the medical drama "Call the Midwife" continues to tug at viewers' heartstrings with another poignant episode in Episode 6. It's an emotionally charged installment that brings together complex storylines that make it difficult not to cry.

The plot opens with Sister Hilda's relentless efforts to help Sergeant Woolf (Trevor Cooper) quit drinking. It's a story worth telling, considering the ongoing battle Sergeant Woolf faces with alcohol addiction. It's good to see him strive to make changes in his life, but it's the manner in which Sister Hilda talks to him that offers the most valuable insight. Her unwavering compassion for the Sergeant's addiction and her deep understanding of the emotional pain that goes with it make her an angel to many viewers.

Meanwhile, the nurses and midwives at Nonnatus House receive a special guest from Government-funded initiative 'Better Britain' – Nurse Crane's (Linda Bassett) old acquaintance, Dr Turner (Stephen McGann). Dr. Turner is excited to start a new program that will see patients receive home visits from a doctor. However, his enthusiasm quickly gives way to disappointment when he discovers the goings-on at Nonnatus House.

The episode delves deeper into Lucille's (Leonie Elliott) backstory with a moving storyline that focuses on her personal life. To the delight of many fans, Episode 6 offers insight into Lucille's past, and it's just as emotional as we anticipate it to be. The scenes with her mother back in Jamaica are emotional and intense, and the pain she carries with her is all too evident. It's a poignant tale that highlights the struggles of immigrants and the emotional costs of leaving one's home behind.

Meanwhile, Nurse Crane is looking for someone to assist her in the kitchen, and she finds an unlikely partner in Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt). It's a heartwarming sight seeing them work together and become partners in crime.

The real gem of Episode 6 of "Call the Midwife" occurs when Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) takes on an unwavering support role for one of her patients, Dorothy (Jenny Galloway). The patient is a fellow nun who is suffering from dementia, and Sister Julienne steps up to help when the nun's regular caretakers quit their positions. Her poignant quest to help Dorothy deserves all the accolades it gets, and it truly is one of the most moving moments in the show since its inception.

Overall, Episode 6 is a fantastic offering from the eighth season of "Call the Midwife." The show continues to capture the hearts of audiences by telling real-life stories that tug at the heartstrings. The episode is proof that it doesn't need to rely on shock tactics or gimmicks to stay relevant – the drama in Nonnatus House and the real-life scenarios that surround the midwives and nurses are enough to captivate audiences and keep them coming back for more.
