Caprica is a prequel to the reimagined Battlestar Galactica television show set 58 years before the events that take place in the Battlestar Galactica mini-series. It is set on Caprica, one of the 12 colonies of the Battlestar Galactica universe. The show follows two families, the Adamas and the Graystones, whose actions set in motion the Cylon rebellion and the war.

The Graystones are scientists. Patriarch Daniel works in artificial intelligence and has developed the first cybernetic life forms, or Cylons. The Adama clan is led by Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama (future captain of the Battlestar Galactica) and a defense attorney. The families are brought together when a terrorist attack kills members of both clans. At first, they work together to resurrect their lost loved ones, but they end up at odds over how that work is done and what it leads to.

Caprica was produced by NBC Universal and was created by Ronald D. Moore and Remi Aubuchon. The show premiered with a two-hour pilot on 22 January 2010 on the SiFi Channel (now SyFy Channel), Britain's Sky1 and Canada's Space network. Prior to its television broadcast debut, an extended version of the pilot was available on DVD on 21 April 2009. Syfy cancelled the show on 27 October 2010 without airing its final five episodes. Those episodes were later aired as a mini-marathon on 4 January 2011. The show aired in its entirety on Canada's Space network. In total, the show had 17 regular episodes and a two-hour pilot episode.
