Ep 4. Smuggler's Booty

Caribbean Pirate Treasure season 2 episode 4, titled "Smuggler's Booty," follows the adventurous duo, Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau, as they embark on another exciting treasure hunt in the Caribbean.

The episode begins with the Cousteau's exploring an abandoned 18th-century port town called Port Royal in Jamaica. They learn about the notorious pirates who inhabited the town in the past and discover that it was a hub for smuggling and piracy. With this information in hand, they head out to sea to search for a smuggler's stash reportedly hidden in the waters near Port Royal.

After reaching the location, the Cousteau's prepare to dive and search for the treasure. The water is murky, and visibility is low, making the search challenging. But Ashlan's training as a certified diver and Philippe's expertise in maritime history come in handy as they explore the area.

They explore a shipwreck called The Merchant's Diamond, which was intercepted while carrying a smuggler's treasure in the past. Here, they find hints to the location of the stash. After leaving the wreck, Philippe and Ashlan continue their dive and spot various marine life, including barracudas and stingrays, which add to the excitement of the search.

Eventually, their persistence pays off, and they discover a hidden vault that could contain the smuggler's stash. However, their attempts to open the vault are futile as it's locked and without a key. Nevertheless, the vault confirms the presence of valuable items, and the Cousteau's are ecstatic.

After returning to land, they meet with a local historian, who provides them with more information on the smugglers who operated in Port Royal. They learn about a secret smuggling network which used to operate at the port, and how they used their connections with the British military to smuggle goods in and out of Jamaica.

Filled with newfound knowledge, the Cousteau's head back to their research lab, and enlist the help of a locksmith. Together, they set out to unlock the vault and see what treasures it contains. But, unlocking the vault turns out to be challenging, and even with all the technological help at their disposal, it takes them a while to crack it open.

Finally, the vault opens, and to their surprise, they find several precious items. The items include coins, artifacts, and other silver objects, which are assessed to be worth over $10,000. Additionally, they discover a rare map which is believed to lead to a hidden treasure. They set out to decode the map and uncover its secret.

The episode ends with the Cousteau's leaving Port Royal, satisfied with their haul, but also intrigued by the mysteries which still lay waiting to be solved. With the map in hand, and the memory of their successful dive fresh in their minds, they vow to return to the Caribbean soon and continue their hunt for more pirate treasure.
