Ep 2. An Avi-ously Dangerous Home

In the second episode of Catch a Contractor season 1, called "An Avi-ously Dangerous Home," hosts Adam Carolla and Skip Bedell respond to a plea for help from Ana and Avi, a young couple who have been living in a certified death trap.

Ana and Avi had hired a contractor named Jeff to remodel their home, but the job was never finished. Jeff had taken their money, demolished half their home, and then disappeared, leaving them with no walls and exposed electrical work. The couple had been living in a construction zone for over a year, and even worse, their home was now completely unsafe.

Adam and Skip are horrified at what they see when they enter the home. The house is in shambles, with no working plumbing, unsafe electrical work, and countless code violations. They promise Ana and Avi that they will do whatever it takes to help them find Jeff and bring him to justice.

The hosts start their investigation by interviewing the couple and inspecting the damage. They quickly realize that Jeff was an experienced con artist who lied about his credentials, took shortcuts in his work, and left behind a trail of unhappy customers. They also discover that Jeff's company was not licensed and that he had committed a string of frauds and thefts in the past.

Determined to catch Jeff, Adam and Skip disguise themselves as a couple looking to renovate their own home and meet with Jeff's business partner, Don. Don claims that Jeff is out of town for a family emergency but promises to give him their contact information. Adam and Skip know that this is a typical dodge used by shady contractors, so they continue their search for Jeff's whereabouts.

With the help of a private investigator, Adam and Skip track down Jeff's last known address and confront him at his new workplace. Jeff denies any wrongdoing and claims that he had to abandon Ana and Avi's project because of a family crisis. However, Adam and Skip are not convinced and present Jeff with the evidence they have gathered.

Realizing that he has been caught, Jeff agrees to return to Ana and Avi's home to fix the damage he caused. However, he soon proves to be a terrible contractor once again, taking shortcuts, cutting corners, and making excuses. Adam and Skip have to step in and teach him how to do the job properly, all while keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn't wander off again.

In the end, Ana and Avi are thrilled to have their home repaired and safe once again. They thank Adam and Skip for their help and say that they now feel more confident in dealing with contractors in the future. Adam and Skip remind viewers to always check a contractor's credentials, references, and licenses before hiring them and to be wary of anyone who makes promises that sound too good to be true.
