Cheyenne season 1 episode 4, titled "Wish You Were Here," opens with Cheyenne Bodie, the show's central character, riding through the open countryside on his trusty horse. The peacefulness of his journey is promptly interrupted, however, by the sudden arrival of two armed men on horseback. Cheyenne quickly realizes that these men are hunting him down and proceeds to defend himself with swift, powerful attacks. After a few minutes of brutal combat, the two aggressors are subdued and Cheyenne continues on his journey.

As he nears the town of Calderwood, Cheyenne strikes up an interesting conversation with a fellow traveler named Lila Conrad. Lila is a beautiful young woman with a surprising amount of travel experience and worldly knowledge. Cheyenne is immediately intrigued by her and offers to take her into town with him.

Once they reach Calderwood, Cheyenne and Lila discover that the town is in the midst of a heated election season. The incumbent sheriff is facing off against a challenger who is widely viewed as corrupt and dangerous. Cheyenne, always the protector of the people, decides to lend his support to the incumbent sheriff.

Things take a darker turn when one of the sheriff's campaign workers is found murdered. Suspicion immediately falls on the corrupt challenger and his cronies, but there is no hard evidence to link them to the crime. Cheyenne, ever the resourceful detective, sets out to uncover the truth behind the murder.

As he gets deeper into his investigation, Cheyenne realizes that Lila may know more than she is letting on. It turns out that she is intimately connected to the goings-on in Calderwood and may even have been involved in the murder herself. Cheyenne's moral compass is tested as he grapples with the question of whether or not to turn her in.

In the end, Cheyenne discovers the truth behind the murder and brings the perpetrators to justice. Lila is revealed to be a complex and multi-faceted character who ultimately redeems herself in Cheyenne's eyes. The episode ends with Cheyenne riding off into the sunset, ever on the lookout for injustice and wrongdoing.
