Dateline Season 14 Episode 22 To Catch a Predator - Greenville, OH (Part 2)

  • May 3, 2006

To Catch a Predator is a true crime show that investigates cases of sexual predators targeting children online. In season 14 episode 22, viewers are taken to Greenville, OH, where an undercover investigation into online predators has been underway for weeks. This episode is the second part of a two-part special, where we see the conclusion of the investigation and the arrests of multiple suspects.

The episode starts with Chris Hansen, the host of the show, giving a recap of the previous episode. He reminds viewers that the Greenville police department, along with members of an online watchdog group called Perverted Justice, have been posing as minors online and luring predators to a house where they are confronted by law enforcement.

We then see footage of the various targets arriving at the house, expecting to meet a young girl or boy for sex. One of the first to be caught is a man who claims to be a firefighter and arrives at the house with a bottle of wine. Another is a man who had previously been convicted of sexual assault but was still using online chat rooms to prey on children.

As the episode progresses, we see more and more men arrive at the house, each with their own twisted desires. Some bring condoms, others bring alcohol, and all are met with the same shocking confrontation when they are caught by police.

One of the most disturbing arrests is a man who claims to be a college professor and brings a notebook with him, seemingly to take notes during his encounter with the young girl he expects to meet. When confronted, he is shown to be extremely agitated and even attempts to break free from the officers.

Throughout the episode, we also see interviews with the officers involved in the investigation, as well as members of Perverted Justice who helped to lure the predators to the house. They discuss the methods used to catch the suspects, as well as the emotional toll of seeing so many offenders in one place.

The final moments of the episode show the suspects being taken away in handcuffs, as well as a brief discussion on the aftermath of the investigation. We are reminded that while these arrests may not solve the problem entirely, they do send a message that law enforcement is actively pursuing those who would harm children.

In conclusion, this episode of To Catch a Predator is a sobering reminder of the dangers that children face online and the need for continued vigilance in combating sexual predators. It is a difficult watch at times, but an important one for anyone concerned with the safety of our children.
