  • May 17, 2006

To Catch a Predator - Fort Meyers, FL (Part 2) is the 24th episode of the 14th season of Dateline, a long-running news magazine show produced by NBC News. The show is a continuation of the popular series To Catch a Predator, which focuses on exposing potential child predators by conducting undercover stings with the help of local law enforcement. In this episode, Dateline correspondent Chris Hansen and members of the Perverted Justice team continue their investigation into a group of men who have traveled to Fort Meyers, Florida, with the intention of meeting underage girls for sex.

The episode begins with a recap of the previous week's episode, which featured the arrest of several men who had shown up to a sting house in Fort Meyers. Among those arrested were a Navy officer, a firefighter, a high school teacher, and a parole officer. Hansen and the Perverted Justice team had set up a fake online profile for a 13-year-old girl named "Kayla" and had posed as her on various chat rooms. The men who had responded to these chats were lured to the sting house under the pretense of meeting Kayla for sex, only to be confronted by Hansen and the police.

In the second part of the episode, Hansen and the team focus on one particular man who had shown up to the Flint, Michigan sting, but had managed to evade arrest. The man, a 63-year-old engineer named William Conradt, had been a well-respected member of his community and had served as the city attorney for the nearby town of Terrell, Texas. After learning of Conradt's identity, Hansen and the team travel to Texas to continue their investigation.

In Texas, Hansen and the team set up another sting house and pose as Kayla once again. Conradt, who had been communicating with "Kayla" online for weeks, makes plans to come to the house to meet her for sex. As Conradt arrives at the house, he is confronted by Hansen and the police and attempts to flee, only to be apprehended outside.

The episode also features interviews with the police officers and members of the Perverted Justice team who were involved in the sting. They discuss the challenges and dangers of working in this field, as well as the importance of catching potential child predators before they can harm real children.

Ultimately, the episode serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers that children face online and the importance of remaining vigilant in the fight against child predators. The show's unflinching look at these crimes, and the efforts to bring those responsible to justice, make it a must-watch for anyone concerned with the safety of children.
