Doctor Who: The Krotons is a classic science-fiction television series that was first aired on BBC television in December 1968. It is part of the long-running Doctor Who franchise and forms part of the classic era of the show. The plot of the show follows the adventures of the Doctor, a renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, and his two companions, Jamie and Zoe, as they arrive on the planet of the Gonds. The Gonds are a primitive society that has been enslaved by a race known as the Krotons, who have taken over the power source for the Gonds' city.

The Doctor soon discovers that the Krotons are an advanced but malfunctioning machine race who have now learnt how to create organic life to act as their servants. They are using the Gonds' intelligence as the fuel source for their own ends, and it is up to the Doctor to prevent this from happening again.

The Krotons themselves are an interesting villain, and classic Doctor Who monsters. They are a crystalline race with the ability to drain energy from other creatures, which they then turn into mental power to sustain themselves. They are also able to control the minds of their victims, using them to carry out their bidding.

Overall, Doctor Who: The Krotons is an exciting adventure that mixes classic sci-fi elements and action-packed adventure. It is a great example of the strong storytelling and character development that are hallmarks of the Doctor Who franchise.

There are many highlights to this classic episode, including the excellent acting, atmospheric locations and the clever use of special effects. The writing is also top-notch, with a great mix of humour, action and drama that makes the show so entertaining.

One of the most memorable moments from the show is when the Doctor and his companions first encounter the Krotons. The build-up to the reveal of the villains is masterly, with the Doctor and his companions gradually piecing together what is happening on the planet.

Another highlight is the relationship between the Doctor and his companions. They are a great team and have some fantastic chemistry, which adds an extra level of excitement and humour to the show.

Overall, Doctor Who: The Krotons is a must-watch for fans of classic sci-fi and Doctor Who enthusiasts alike. It is a thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It is also a great example of the strong storytelling and character development that have made Doctor Who such a beloved franchise for so many years.

The TARDIS arrives on the unnamed planet of the Gonds, who are ruled and taught in a form of self-perpetuating slavery by the alien Krotons - crystalline beings whose ship, the Dynatrope, crash-landed there thousands of years ago after being damaged in a space battle. The Krotons are at present in suspended animation, in a crystalline slurry form, awaiting a time when they can be reconstituted by absorption of mental energy. Periodically, the two most brilliant Gond students are received into the Dynatrope, apparently to become "companions of the Krotons" but in truth to have their mental energy drained, after which they are killed. When the Doctor and Zoe take the students' test, their mental power is sufficient to reanimate the Krotons. The Doctor discovers that their life system is based on tellurium and, with help from the Gond scientist Beta, he is then able to destroy them and their ship using an impure form of sulfuric acid.
