Ep 4. Vengeance on Varos (2)

The Doctor and his companion Peri arrive on the planet Varos, a world known for its unique mineral deposits that are highly sought after. However, the Varosians are living in poverty due to corrupt leaders who have monopolized the mineral trade. In the previous episode, the Doctor and Peri found themselves imprisoned and forced to participate in a brutal game show called "Punishment Dome", alongside the Governor of Varos who found himself on the wrong side of politics. The mineral is actually a byproduct of a creature known as the Quillam, a sentient being whose physical and mental suffering provides the valuable mineral. The Doctor is horrified by the exploitation of the Quillam and decides to take actions to stop the production of the mineral. However, the corrupt officials in charge of the industry are not willing to give up their profitable enterprise so easily.

The Doctor and Peri join forces with Areta and the rebels to stage a massive uprising, which leads to a climactic battle in the mines. The Chief Officer is forced to acknowledge the suffering caused by his actions and faces a turning point in his outlook.
