In season 5 episode 4 of Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, titled "Secrets and Lies," Cesar Millan works with several dogs who have behavioral issues that stem from their owners' secrets and lies.
The first dog we meet is a Rottweiler named Yogi who was rescued from a dog fighting ring. However, his new owner, who is a police officer, has not been truthful about his involvement in the ring, which causes Yogi to struggle with trust and aggression issues. Cesar observes Yogi's behavior, noting that he is highly reactive and easily triggered. He also discovers that Yogi has never been properly socialized with other dogs and has a strong prey drive. Cesar works with both Yogi and his owner to rebuild their relationship based on trust and honesty, and teaches them techniques to manage Yogi's behavior.
Next, Cesar meets a couple who have been keeping a secret from their dog, a Belgian Malinois named Koa. The couple had to give up Koa's littermate because they were unable to care for two puppies at once, and they feel guilty about it. As a result, they have been spoiling Koa and giving him more attention than he needs, which has caused him to become anxious and needy. Cesar helps the couple understand that Koa needs structure and discipline, and teaches them how to set boundaries and give Koa the appropriate amount of attention.
In another segment, Cesar works with a family who have two dogs, a German Shepherd and a Labrador Retriever. The owners have been keeping a secret from their children about the Labrador's previous owner, who passed away from cancer. The family has been telling their children that they rescued the dog from a shelter, but the Labrador has been exhibiting signs of grief and depression, likely due to the loss of his previous owner. Cesar helps the family understand that the Labrador needs emotional support and time to grieve his previous owner, and teaches them how to provide that support.
Finally, Cesar meets a couple who have been keeping a secret from their dog, a Chihuahua named Pinky. The couple had a baby six months ago, and since then, Pinky has been acting out by peeing on the baby's items and growling at the baby. The couple has been keeping Pinky away from the baby, but Cesar helps them understand that this is not the solution. He teaches them how to introduce Pinky to the baby slowly and safely, and how to manage Pinky's behavior around the baby.
Throughout the episode, Cesar emphasizes the importance of honesty and transparency in relationships with dogs, and how secrets and lies can cause behavioral issues. He also teaches his clients various techniques for managing their dogs' behavior, including exercise, discipline, and affection, and emphasizes the importance of a balanced lifestyle for dogs. By the end of the episode, all of the dogs have made progress in their behavioral issues, and their owners have a better understanding of how to communicate with and care for their furry friends.
