In Dog Whisperer season 7 episode 12, titled "Diego and Berkeley," world-renowned dog behaviorist Cesar Millan works with two very different dogs and their owners to address their specific behavioral issues.

Diego, a 10-year-old Chihuahua, has severe separation anxiety and becomes destructive whenever his owner, Felipe, leaves the house. Diego's destructive behavior includes chewing on furniture, tearing up carpets, and even biting through doors. Felipe's job requires him to travel frequently, and his wife is left to deal with the aftermath of Diego's anxiety.

Cesar observes Diego's behavior and notes that his anxiety stems from a lack of boundaries and structure in his daily routine. Cesar works with Felipe and his wife to establish a consistent walking and feeding schedule for Diego, as well as teaching them techniques for leadership and boundary-setting. Cesar also challenges Diego's fears by introducing him to other dogs in a controlled environment.

Berkeley, a 4-year-old Pit Bull, has aggression issues towards other dogs. His owners, Stephanie and David, are unable to take him on walks without him aggressively pulling towards other dogs and becoming uncontrollable. Berkeley's aggression also extends towards his owners; he will snap at Stephanie or David if he becomes agitated or is told to stop a certain behavior.

Cesar observes Berkeley's behavior and determines that his aggression is due to a lack of socialization as a puppy. Cesar challenges Berkeley's fears by introducing him to other dogs in a controlled environment, slowly allowing him to become more comfortable and less aggressive. Cesar also works with Stephanie and David to establish themselves as trusted leaders in Berkeley's eyes, and gives them techniques for recognizing and responding to Berkeley's body language signals.

Throughout the episode, Cesar emphasizes the importance of providing dogs with structure, boundaries, and leadership in order to address their behavioral issues. He encourages owners to be consistent in their routines and to take the time to understand their dog's needs and fears. With consistency and patience, Cesar demonstrates how even the most challenging behavioral issues can be addressed and improved.
