Farmhouse Fixer is a brand new HGTV series that showcases the transformation of old and outdated farmhouses into stunning modern homes while still holding on to their historical charm. In season one, episode one, entitled "Pilot," host and renovation expert, Jonathan Knight takes on a colossal renovation project that involves reviving an old Victorian Farmhouse in the tranquillity of New England with history dating back to the 1700s.
Jonathan Knight, a former New Kids on the Block band member has over twenty years of experience in the field of restoration and renovation of historic homes. The show opens with Jonathan and his producer arriving at the property, and they both marvel at the architecture of the farmhouse as they drive up the long gravel path to the front entrance. The house has incredible potential, with its wrap-around porch, detailed woodwork, and acres of land surrounding the property.
Aside from saving the integrity of this beautiful old farmhouse, Jonathan must plan and execute major structural work on the property to bring the home up to code. His renovation plans require him to dig up the foundation of the house and replace it entirely with new concrete to make it structurally sound. Another considerable task is gutting down the kitchen to create an open-plan space that allows natural light into the house's living areas. Jonathan has a big challenge ahead of him as this renovation project is unlike any other and will truly test his craftsmanship and patience.
After assessing the farmhouse and creating a renovation plan that meets the client's design expectations, Jonathan sets out to purchase materials, including vintage pieces that match the farmhouse's historical features. He meets with the homeowners to discuss their vision for the house and to address how they want to enhance their living experience. The homeowners had always had a desire to live in an old farmhouse, but they had no idea how much work needed to be done to turn it into a functional home.
As construction work starts, Jonathan runs into some unexpected issues that require him to make adjustments to his renovation plans. One of those issues is a faulty air conditioning unit, which causes significant problems when it comes to the layout and size of the rooms on the second floor. Jonathan must make a quick decision to move the air conditioning unit out of its original position and install it elsewhere, which impacts the design of the house's layout.
It's not just the renovations that are challenging for Jonathan; the wide-open farmland around the farmhouse causes additional complications for the construction and installation of utilities such as plumbing and electricity. The location has no direct connection to the town's supply, and the soil's topography provides additional challenges.
The episode is focused on showcasing the farmhouse's transformation from its current state into a well-appointed, modern home with classic touches. Jonathan demonstrates his expertise and creativity as he works tirelessly to restore the old structure to its former glory. Throughout the season premiere, viewers get a glimpse of the collaboration between Jonathon and the homeowners as they choose finishes, layouts, and colors to personalize their new home.
Overall, Farmhouse Fixer season one episode one is an exciting and captivating representation of the home renovation process. Jonathan Knight's expertise, experience and attention to detail, together with the homeowners' vision, played essential roles in bringing the farmhouse back to life. The transformation is well worth the time and effort, and the end result is a beautiful and functional home filled with character and personalized touches while offering modern comfort and elegance.
