Carter Stevens has just found out that she was abducted as a toddler and the woman she thought was her mother, Lori, is actually her kidnapper. As she tries to adjust to her new life with her real family, she also struggles with the betrayal and confusion of her past. In episode 2 of season 1, titled "The Birds," Carter's father, David, attempts to bond with Carter by taking her bird-watching. Meanwhile, Carter's twin sister, Taylor, tries to navigate her own problems as her ex-boyfriend, Gabe, seems to be moving on quickly with a new girl.

The episode opens with Carter and David enjoying a morning of bird-watching in the woods. David explains that he's been doing this hobby since he was a kid, and it's a great way to get away from the stresses of life. Carter is intrigued by the birds and asks David how he got into bird-watching. David tells her about how his father took him bird-watching when he was younger and how it became a tradition for them. The scene is a sweet moment between father and daughter, and it's clear that David is trying his best to connect with Carter.

Back at home, things aren't going as smoothly for Taylor. She's still dealing with the fallout of her breakup with Gabe, and it seems like he's already moved on with a new girl. While Taylor tries to distract herself by working on her art project, Gabe shows up at her house to pick up some old concert tickets he left behind. Taylor is clearly upset by seeing him with another girl, and Gabe tries to make small talk and apologize for how things ended between them.

Meanwhile, Carter and David have a run-in with Lori at the grocery store. Lori tries to approach them, but David is hesitant to engage with her. Carter, on the other hand, is curious about Lori and her past. She approaches Lori and asks her why she took her. Lori tries to justify her actions by saying that she wanted to give Carter a better life than what she had with her birth parents. Carter is clearly conflicted by Lori's words, and it's clear that she's still trying to process the fact that she was kidnapped.

Later, at school, Taylor tries to avoid Gabe as much as possible. She runs into Max, a boy she used to have a crush on, and he invites her to a party. Taylor is hesitant at first, but Max convinces her to come. When she arrives at the party, Gabe is there with his new girlfriend, prompting Taylor to leave. She goes back to working on her art project, but it's clear that she's still upset.

Meanwhile, Carter is still trying to understand her past. She meets with a counselor who tries to help her sort through her emotions. The scene is emotional as Carter talks about her confusion and anger towards Lori for taking her away from her family. The counselor provides some insight into the complex emotions that come with being a victim of kidnapping, and Carter is visibly relieved to have someone to talk to.

As the episode comes to a close, Carter visits Lori in jail. Lori tells her about a special birding spot that she used to take Carter to when she was young. Carter is touched by the memory and asks David to take her to the spot. The two bond over their shared love of bird-watching, and it's clear that David is making an effort to connect with Carter.

Overall, episode 2 of Finding Carter season 1 is an emotional rollercoaster. The show does a great job of exploring the complex emotions that come with being a victim of kidnapping, and the bond between David and Carter is heartwarming to watch. Meanwhile, Taylor's struggles with her breakup and Gabe's new relationship add an interesting dynamic to the show. The end of the episode leaves viewers wondering what will happen next as Carter continues to try to understand her past and adjust to her new life.
