Ep 5. The Heat

Carter and her brother, Grant, embark on a mission to save their younger sister, Taylor, from the grips of her wealthy boyfriend, Max. After learning that Max is physically abusive towards Taylor, Carter and Grant hatch a plan to break into Max's mansion and get Taylor out of harm's way. While Grant serves as lookout outside, Carter sneaks inside and finds Taylor, who is reluctant to leave because she believes Max truly loves her. As they try to make their way out, Max catches them and threatens to call the police. However, when Carter stands up to Max and accuses him of being a coward for abusing Taylor, he backs down and lets them leave.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth struggles to keep her affair with Kyle a secret from her husband, David, who becomes increasingly suspicious of her behavior. When David confronts her and accuses her of having an affair, Elizabeth denies it and insists that she has been working late at the office. However, David later discovers a gift from Kyle in Elizabeth's purse and confronts her again. Realizing that the truth will come out eventually, Elizabeth confesses to the affair and begs David to forgive her. David, hurt and angry, tells her that he needs time to think.

In the midst of all the drama, Carter also faces a personal dilemma when she is forced to choose between Crash and her new friend, Gabe. While things seem to be heating up between her and Crash, Carter finds herself drawn to Gabe's laid-back and easygoing personality. However, when she realizes that Gabe has feelings for her, she is unsure of how to respond. Eventually, Carter comes to the realization that she needs to take things slow and figure out what she truly wants before making any decisions.

In the end, the episode ends on a bittersweet note as the Wilson family comes together to celebrate Carter's seventeenth birthday. Despite the recent setbacks they have faced, they are able to put aside their differences and enjoy the moment. However, there is still an underlying tension between Elizabeth and David, and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to repair their relationship in the future. As for Carter, she continues to navigate the complexities of being a teenager while also trying to uncover the truth about her past and her true identity.
