Ep 1. Shinra Kusakabe Enlists

In Fire Force season 1 episode 1, we are introduced to our main protagonist Shinra Kusakabe, a boy with a peculiar ability to ignite his feet and move at superhuman speeds. He is a third generation pyrokinetic and joins the Special Fire Force Company 8 to become a hero and save people from Infernals, humans who spontaneously combust and turn into monsters.

Shinra's first day at work is not off to a great start as he is met with hostility and suspicion from his team members due to his past and reputation. However, Captain Akitaru Obi welcomes him warmly and assigns him as Company 8's new recruit. His first task involves retrieving a kitten from a burning house and rescuing a firefighter who has been affected by a rapid-calcification virus caused by Infernal contact.

As Shinra navigates through the burning building, he discovers the origins of his powers and why they cause him so much pain. He remembers the tragic incident from his past where his family was killed and his younger brother turned into an Infernal. He also meets with Arthur Boyle, a fellow third-generation member and wielder of a plasma sword, who introduces him to the world of Fire Force and the responsibilities they have to protect Tokyo from the Infernals.

During their mission, Shinra and Arthur discover a strange cult-like organization that seems to have connections to the Infernals. They also encounter a mysterious girl in white robes who is said to be the key to unlocking the secrets of the Infernals. As the episode ends, we see Shinra and Arthur setting out on a new mission to investigate the source of the Infernals and stop the organization behind them.

Fire Force season 1 episode 1 sets the tone for an action-packed and emotionally driven narrative that explores themes of grief, loss, and redemption. The episode does a great job of introducing the main characters and their abilities while also laying the groundwork for the overarching plot. The animation and sound design are top-notch, with the fight scenes being particularly well choreographed and intense. The show also does a great job of balancing comedy with drama, making for an entertaining and engaging experience for viewers.
