In Fist of the North Star season 1 episode 4, "Attack the Bloody Cross! The Secret Technique, Death by Soft Strikes!", the audience is introduced to a new antagonist, Heart. Heart is a member of the Zeed gang, and he's been causing trouble for the people of Southern Cross. Heart is a master of the Nanto Seiken style, which is notable for its use of softer, more fluid motions as opposed to the hard, jarring movements of Kenshiro's Hokuto Shinken style.
The episode opens with Heart and his gang attacking a church in Southern Cross, where they've holed up a group of innocent civilians. Kenshiro and his companion Bat arrive just in time to see the chaos, and they quickly assess the situation. Kenshiro knows that Heart is a formidable opponent, but he's determined to put a stop to his reign of terror.
Meanwhile, Heart's boss, the ruthless Jagi, is back in his headquarters planning his next move. Jagi's ultimate goal is to take over Southern Cross entirely, and he knows that Heart is his best weapon. We get a glimpse into Jagi's twisted psyche as he discusses his plan with his henchmen, and it becomes clear that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than we initially thought.
Back at the church, Kenshiro has managed to sneak inside and is taking on Heart's gang one by one. With his Hokuto Shinken technique, he's able to take down several of the thugs before Heart himself shows up. The two have a tense confrontation, and we start to see Heart's unique fighting style in action. He's able to use his soft strikes to paralyze Kenshiro's muscles, effectively rendering him powerless. Just when it seems like all hope is lost, Bat shows up and distracts Heart long enough for Kenshiro to regroup and launch one final attack.
The battle between Kenshiro and Heart is intense, with both fighters showcasing their skills in a series of stunning moves. In the end, it's Kenshiro's Hokuto Shinken that prevails, and Heart is defeated. However, just as Kenshiro is about to deliver the finishing blow, he hesitates. We're left wondering why he didn't finish Heart off, and it's clear that there's more to this story than we've seen so far.
Overall, "Attack the Bloody Cross! The Secret Technique, Death by Soft Strikes!" is a great episode that introduces us to a new, intriguing villain in Heart. The fight scenes are expertly choreographed, and the tension between the characters is palpable. As the plot thickens and Kenshiro's backstory is slowly revealed, we're left wanting to know more about this world and the people who inhabit it. This is definitely a show that's worth checking out if you're a fan of action anime.
