Ep 5. Ranch House Reimagined

In this episode of Fixer Upper Season 5, Joanna Gaines and her husband Chip take on a new challenge as they attempt to transform a ranch-style home. The clients, a couple with two young children, have purchased a house with good bones but the interior needs a complete overhaul.

The exterior of the ranch house is in good shape, although it doesn't look very inviting or welcoming. The couple wants the house to have a more modern and contemporary feel while still maintaining some of its original features. As always, Joanna has a clear vision in mind for the home, and she works with her husband to bring it to life.

Inside, the living room has a huge stone fireplace that serves as the focal point. Joanna decides to paint the brick walls with a warm white color to help lighten up the space. They also replace the outdated carpet with hardwood floors polished to perfection. Joanna installs some floating wood shelves over the fireplace and finishes off the room with some vintage leather chairs and some warm accessories to create a cozy yet modern space.

The couple’s dining room is quite spacious but lacks character. The team decides to add some barn doors, which makes the space feel more grand and creates more texture. Joanna installs a custom-made table overlooking the beautiful landscape and adds a few elements that give it a rustic appeal. The couple can now comfortably host dinner parties with all their friends.

The master bedroom has large windows that bring in natural light, but the room feels small and cramped. The team takes advantage of the high ceilings, creating a bed platform that has storage underneath the bed. The couple gets their own customized headboard, which is especially made to fit their space. Joanna adds some pops of blue, creating a serene feeling in the room.

The couple is so happy with the work done by the renovation masters but the game-changer is the kitchen. The old kitchen was outdated and small, making it difficult for the family to cook and spend time together. The Fixer Upper host duo decides to create a new dream kitchen that will become the heart of the home. Joanna suggests an industrial-style island that will provide enough workspace while introducing a sleek and updated design. The team finishes the countertops with white marble and decides to extend the backsplash tiling all the way up to the ceiling. The client's favourite feature is the custom kitchen island stained with blue and outfitted with a sink while the side has open shelves.

The team completely transforms the laundry room by taking advantage of the high ceilings by adding storage space and a new washer and dryer. Instead of a bonus room, an office is made which is a perfect space to work and get things done. They go for a more modern and clean plain white wall paint and a black and white colour scheme. The client now has a comfortable workspace to catch up on their emails and to-do lists with a large desk and a sliding barn door for privacy.

After the intense but successful remodeling of the ranch house, the family is happy with how their home has become lighter, brighter and modern. They now have a space where they can comfortably host visitors and have ample space for the children to play. Needless to say, the couple is impressed with the creativity, quality and aesthetics shown by Joanna and Chip in this episode of Fixer Upper Season 5.
