Forensic Files: Collection Season 1 Episode 33 Hear No Evil

  • July 30, 2010

Hear No Evil, the 33rd episode of Forensic Files: Collection season 1, tells the story of a deaf woman named Sandra Williams who was found murdered in her home. Williams lived alone and had been an active member of the deaf community, which prompted the investigation to be conducted with the use of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters.

The case began when a neighbor, who was also deaf, noticed that Williams' car had remained parked in her driveway for several days. Concerned, the neighbor went to check on Williams and discovered her lifeless body on the floor of her living room. The authorities were immediately notified, and the investigation began.

One of the challenges that the investigators faced during the case was communicating with witnesses who were either deaf or hard of hearing. The use of ASL interpreters was essential during interviews with potential witnesses and suspects, as it helped the investigators gather accurate information without any language barriers.

The autopsy revealed that Williams had been brutally beaten to death, and the wounds on her head indicated that she had been struck repeatedly with a heavy object. This led the investigators to suspect that the killer may have been someone known to her or with whom she had some sort of personal relationship. The team retraced Williams' steps in the days leading up to her death and discovered that she had been on a date with a man named Willie Haynes a few days prior.

Haynes was brought in for questioning and denied any involvement in Williams' murder, but the investigators noticed several inconsistencies in his statement and decided to investigate further. They discovered that Haynes had a history of domestic violence and that he had been arrested multiple times for assaulting women, which led them to believe that he was an active threat to society.

The forensic evidence collected from the crime scene played a crucial role in linking Haynes to Williams' murder. Blood samples found on his clothing matched Williams' DNA, and his fingerprints were also found at the crime scene. The forensic team also discovered a handwritten note in Williams' bedroom that Haynes had tried to burn, which further tied him to the crime.

The investigators were able to build a solid case against Haynes, and he was charged with the murder of Sandra Williams. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hear No Evil is a gripping episode that showcases the importance of using specialized techniques and resources when investigating crimes involving the deaf and hard of hearing. The use of ASL interpreters, forensic evidence, and traditional investigative methods helped bring justice to Sandra Williams and serves as a reminder that all communities, regardless of their unique needs, deserve equal access to justice.
