Forged in Fire: Cutting Deeper Season 1 Episode 2 Champions Edition

  • September 27, 2016

Forged in Fire: Cutting Deeper is a TV series that follows some of the world's best bladesmiths as they compete to create the most exceptional edged weapons. In the second episode of the first season, fans of the show were treated to a thrilling edition that put the contestants to the test in a Champions Edition challenge.

The episode opened with the four champions - former winners - walking into the forge to see what awaited them. The contestants included Jay Neilson, the very first Forged in Fire Champion who won during the debut season, Jason Knight, who has made a name for himself with his 'viking-style' designs, Ben Abbott who won the first-ever 'Battle of the Branches' competition, and Neil Kamimura, the season 4 champion.

The champions learned that in this episode, they would be taking the process of knife-making to a whole new level. They would need to create a Thracian weapon, an ancient design that features a unique double-edged blade with a handle that can function as a secondary weapon. The contestants were thrilled to take on the challenge.

To begin forging, the contestants were given two hours to turn a ball-bearing into a blade and start shaping the weapon. They got to work quickly, with each contestant offering their unique approach to the task at hand. After completing the first stage, the contestants were given an hour to work on a handle to complement their blades. They created ornate handles, each made in different styles using different materials, from wood to antler and even ivory. The creativity in this stage was remarkable.

Next, the judges scrutinized the blades and handles, checking for sharpness, balance, aesthetics, and durability. The judges were Doug Marcaida, David Baker, and J. Neilson. After careful consideration, the judges announced which contestants would move on to the final stage of the competition, with one being eliminated in each round.

The final stage of the competition required the contestants to create an intricate chain that could wrap around the Thracian weapon's handle to create its distinctive secondary weapon. This task proved challenging for some, as the contestants had only 90 minutes to create the perfect chain.

Once the chains were completed, the final testing began. The judges examined the Thracian weapons, critiquing everything from the edges to the balance to the overall presentation. The contestants waited on edge as the judges made their decisions.

In the end, one champion emerged victorious, taking home a cash prize of $10,000 and the title of Forged in Fire: Cutting Deeper Champion. The other contestants accepted their defeat gracefully, each congratulating the winner on a job well done.

Forged in Fire: Cutting Deeper season 1 episode 2 was a riveting installment that captured all the excitement and drama that audiences have come to expect from the series. The Champion Edition added another level of intensity as former winners battled it out to see who would come out on top. With breathtaking weapons and excellent craftsmanship on display, this episode promised to keep fans on the edge of their seats throughout.
