Foyle's War season 6, episode 2, "Broken Souls" sees Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle respond to an apparent suicide of a former Nazi. However, as the investigation deepens, Foyle uncovers a web of lies and corruption that leads him down a path to discovering the truth about the death of one of his colleagues during the war.

Set in the aftermath of World War II, Foyle's War follows the investigations of Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle, played by Michael Kitchen. In this episode, Foyle is approached by a colleague from the war, Dr. Terence Latimer, about the apparent suicide of a German immigrant, Hans Schrader, in his office. Dr. Latimer is convinced that Schrader was driven to suicide by the harsh treatment he received from the British authorities, who had interned him during the war.

As Foyle begins to look into the case, however, he discovers that Schrader's death may have been anything but a suicide. He soon learns of other former Nazis who have died under mysterious circumstances, including one who was killed by a hit-and-run driver just a few weeks earlier. Foyle begins to suspect that there may be a link between these deaths and the British intelligence agency MI5.

As Foyle delves deeper into the case, he uncovers evidence of corruption and cover-ups within MI5. He discovers that his own colleague, a former MI5 agent named Paul Milner, had been investigating the agency's involvement in the deaths of former Nazis, but had died in a car accident before he could complete his investigation. Foyle must navigate this dangerous web of lies and deceit in order to uncover the truth about Milner's death and the role of MI5 in these killings.

Along the way, Foyle is aided by his loyal driver, Samantha "Sam" Stewart (Honeysuckle Weeks), and the two of them form a close bond as they work together to solve the case. Sam also has her own personal struggles in this episode, as she grapples with the emotional toll of her job and the aftermath of a difficult case she worked on previously.

Overall, "Broken Souls" is a tense and gripping episode of Foyle's War that keeps the audience guessing until the very end. The performances of Kitchen and Weeks are as strong as ever, and the intricate plot and historical context make it a fascinating watch for fans of the show and newcomers alike.
