Fresh Meat is a British television comedy-drama series created by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain. The show revolves around a group of six student housemates who are all in their first year at a fictional university called the Manchester Medlock University. The series follows the struggles and adventures of the six housemates as they navigate through the ups and downs of university life in a comedic style.

In episode 1, we are introduced to the main characters. Josie (Kimberley Nixon) is the overconfident and slightly brash girl who fancies herself the smartest in the group. She is joined by her friends Kingsley (Joe Thomas), who is a self-righteous and arrogant hipster, and JP (Jack Whitehall), a wealthy, entitled, and obnoxious character who loves to party.

The three housemates are joined by three more characters who are somewhat less confident and outgoing. Howard (Greg McHugh) is a quiet and introverted character who is struggling to fit in, while Vod (Zawe Ashton) is a free-spirited and somewhat reckless party girl who loves to take risks. Finally, we have Oregon (Charlotte Ritchie) who is somewhat of an enigma as she seems intelligent and ambitious but also burdened by her own insecurities.

In episode 1, all six characters have just moved into their new student house and are trying to get to know each other. There are plenty of awkward moments as the characters attempt to break the ice, and it becomes clear that their different personalities are going to be a challenge to overcome. The house is also in a state of chaos with unpacked boxes, an unclean kitchen, and a strange smell that nobody can seem to identify.

The episode focuses on the housemates' attempts to get to know each other and establish some kind of order in their new home. Josie, Kingsley, and JP are seen partying and having a good time while trying to avoid the more awkward conversations with the others. Howard, Vod, and Oregon, meanwhile, attempt to find some common ground with their new housemates, with varying degrees of success.

As the episode progresses, we see each character struggle with various issues. Howard is being bullied by his new housemates and is struggling to stand up for himself. Vod is grappling with money issues and is in a precarious financial situation, while Oregon is dealing with her own academic and personal insecurities. Meanwhile, Josie, Kingsley, and JP are living in their own bubble, unaware of the issues that their housemates are dealing with.

The episode ends with a house party that is supposed to bring the group together but ends up causing even more chaos. Josie and Kingsley end up getting drunk and hooking up, while JP causes a scene and gets kicked out of the party. Meanwhile, Howard, Vod, and Oregon watch from a distance, unsure of how to join in or if they even want to.

Overall, episode 1 of Fresh Meat is a promising start to the series. The characters are well-established and unique, and their struggles are relatable and engaging. The episode sets up a lot of potential conflicts that will undoubtedly play out over the course of the series. The pacing is well-done, and the comedic moments are genuinely funny. It will be exciting to see where the series goes from here.
