The show "Fresh Off the Boat" is a comedy centered around a Taiwanese-American family in the 1990s as they move from Washington, D.C. to Orlando, Florida to open up a steakhouse.
In season 3 episode 19, titled "Driving Miss Jenny", Jessica (Constance Wu) is excited to compete in the annual North Orlando Chili Cook-Off, but quickly realizes she needs help transporting her chili to the event. Seeing an opportunity, she offers to take her elderly neighbor, Jenny (Lucille Soong), to run some errands in her minivan, hoping to convince Jenny to help with the transportation. However, Jessica's plan goes awry when Jenny insists on driving, but hasn't gotten behind the wheel in years.
Meanwhile, Eddie (Hudson Yang) and Emery (Forrest Wheeler) are trying to come up with a successful YouTube channel idea, but quickly realize their ideas are unoriginal and overdone. With the help of their father, Louis (Randall Park), they decide to create a parody of the popular television show "COPS", but soon realize it's harder than it looks.
Back with Jessica and Jenny, things go from bad to worse when Jenny hits a parked car and tries to leave the scene of the accident. Terrified of getting caught, she begs Jessica to not say anything, but Jessica struggles with her conscience and must decide whether to remain loyal to her neighbor or do the right thing and report the accident.
As the episode progresses, both storylines come to a head, and characters must confront the consequences of their actions and decisions. "Driving Miss Jenny" explores themes of honesty, loyalty, and the importance of accepting help from others.
Overall, the episode is filled with humor and heart, and continues to showcase the unique perspectives and experiences of an Asian-American family in the 90s.
