After a long and treacherous journey, our beloved Tohru Honda is finally out of the hospital! However, the new season of Fruits Basket proves that while things may look up for our favorite protagonist, the troubles that plague the Souma family continue to grow ever more complicated.

"Summer Will Be Here Soon" focuses heavily on the intricate relationships between the Souma family and the repercussions of their troubled past. The episode starts off with a bang as we find Kyo and Tohru on their way to the beach, surrounded by iconic summer imagery. However, even amidst such a carefree setting, there is an unshakeable sense of unease looming over the adventure.

Our favorite members of the Souma clan continue to grapple with the weight of their curse and the long-lasting effects it has had on their familial relationships. This episode serves as a reminder that while they may have their sweet moments, every single character brings their own baggage to the mix, making for a complex and sometimes heartbreaking viewing experience.

One of the main themes tackled in "Summer Will Be Here Soon" is the concept of forgiveness. While we've seen glimpses of familial dynamics healing throughout the season, this episode brings the idea to the forefront in full force. Whether it be rekindling bonds through simple actions such as cooking together or acknowledging past wrongs, the Souma family is continuously working towards a brighter future.

It's not just the Souma family's past that they have to reckon with either- interwoven into this episode is a nod towards the future, as the characters begin to make preparations for the big graduation day. This time of transition induces both joy and fear in our beloved Fruits Basket characters, as they start to prepare for life beyond high school.

Of course, what is Fruits Basket without its lovable supporting cast? "Summer Will Be Here Soon" introduces us to new character Kimi, a bubbly and lighthearted friend of Tohru's. We also get to see more of the enigmatic student council, whose presence has been felt throughout the season but who haven't quite been given their time in the spotlight yet.

Beyond the character development and heartfelt themes, this episode is a beautifully animated feast for the eyes. The vibrant use of color and shadow creates the perfect representation of a summertime beach, and the way the animation captures the characters' body language and expressions speaks volumes about their emotional states.

Overall, "Summer Will Be Here Soon" is another engaging and thought-provoking installment in the Fruits Basket legacy. As we near the end of season two, emotions are running high, but one thing remains the same: the Souma family will always persevere, no matter the obstacles in their way.
