Tohru Honda has always been an optimist, even in the face of adversity. But as she navigates her way through the world of the Sohma family, she is constantly reminded of the darker side of life. In Fruits Basket (Simuldub) season 2 episode 5, titled "What's Important Is...", we see Tohru trying to come to terms with the conflicting emotions she feels towards her now-deceased mother.

Throughout the series, we have seen that Tohru has had a difficult childhood. She lost her father at an early age, and her mother worked long hours to support their small family. Despite the hardships, Tohru always saw the good in people and remained as positive as she could. However, when her mother died in a car accident, Tohru was left feeling lost and alone. She has been carrying this weight with her ever since and has never truly allowed herself to grieve.

In this episode, Tohru has a heart-to-heart with her best friend, Arisa Uotani. Arisa is someone who has always been there for Tohru, even when others have turned their backs on her. She listens patiently as Tohru recounts the last time she saw her mother. Tohru admits that she feels guilty for not being able to say goodbye properly, and for not being able to appreciate her mother when she was still alive.

But Arisa reminds Tohru that what's important is that she was there for her mother when she needed her most. Tohru was the one who would come home from school and cook dinner for her mother, even when she was exhausted from her own long day. She was the one who made her mother smile, even when she was tired and stressed. And most importantly, she was the one who was always there for her mother's funeral.

As Tohru begins to see things from a different perspective, she realizes that her mother knew how much she loved her. She may not have said it enough, but her actions spoke louder than words. And in the end, that's what really matters.

Meanwhile, the Sohma family is still dealing with the fallout from Akito's erratic behavior. Shigure, Hatori, and Ayame attempt to reason with Akito, but their efforts are met with resistance. Akito is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his hold on the family is slipping. As more and more members of the family begin to assert their independence, Akito finds himself feeling more isolated and alone than ever before.

Despite the tension within the family, Tohru continues to see the good in everyone. She is determined to help heal the broken relationships between the Sohmas, and to show them that it's possible to love someone without controlling them. As she navigates the complicated world of the Sohma family, Tohru's optimism and kindness continue to inspire those around her.

In "What's Important Is...", we see the power of love and compassion in action. Tohru's ability to see the good in people is contagious, and she has a profound impact on those around her. As she learns to let go of her guilt and embrace the memories of her mother, Tohru begins to understand that what's important in life is not wealth or power, but the relationships we form with the people we love.
