In the season 2 episode 12 of Gilligan's Island titled "Don't Bug the Mosquitoes," the castaways are visited by a rock band by the name of "The Mosquitoes" while they are out on a routine fishing expedition. The Mosquitoes had stopped over on the island to take a break from their touring schedule, and soon, the islanders are enamoured by their music and offer to host a concert for them on the island.
As preparations for the concert begin, the band, which comprises of four members - Burt (John Gabriel), Skip (Donna Loren), Alice (Nancy Sinatra), and Ronnie (Sammy Jackson) - slowly begins to reveal their true colours. Much to the surprise of the castaways, the band members happen to be rather demanding and high-maintenance, with each band member having their own unique set of quirks.
Burt, the band's lead singer, is quite the philosopher and refuses to perform unless everyone abides by his beliefs and behavioural rules. Skip, the drummer, is quite the ladies man and tries to seduce all the women on the island, including Ginger and Mary Ann. Alice, the band's bassist, is rather particular about her hair and makeup and spends most of her time touching up her looks. Ronnie, the guitarist, is a hypochondriac and is convinced that the island's fruit and water are contaminated.
As the day of the concert approaches, tensions begin to rise between the castaways and the band members, with each one finding it harder to put up with the other's demands and eccentricities. However, despite the inherent conflicts, the concert eventually goes ahead, with the castaways showcasing their own musical talents in the process.
As the episode reaches its climax, the castaways and the band members come to a mutual agreement of never crossing paths again, with everyone relieved to be rid of the constant bickering and tension. However, towards the very end, it is revealed that the "performance" featuring the castaways was a pre-recorded tape played over the speaker system as the band had already fled the island during the night.
In conclusion, "Don't Bug the Mosquitoes" is a hilarious and entertaining episode that showcases the dynamics between the islanders and visiting rock band. The episode also highlights the importance of mutual respect and tolerance amidst conflicting personalities and viewpoints. Overall, it is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys good humour and entertaining storylines.
