Ep 1. Destroyer In The Dusk

In the first episode of Gungrave, "Destroyer in the Dusk", we are introduced to Brandon Heat and Harry MacDowell, two longtime friends who have recently become involved with a mafia syndicate in the fictional city of Millenion.

The episode opens with Brandon and Harry reminiscing on their past and discussing their current situation within the syndicate. It becomes clear that Harry is the brains of the operation, handling the finances and political dealings while Brandon is the muscle, tasked with carrying out the syndicate's dirty work.

However, their work takes a deadly turn when they are ordered to take out a rival gang in a warehouse. Brandon and Harry, along with a group of other syndicate members, enter the warehouse and quickly find themselves outnumbered and outgunned. In a brutal and intense sequence, the group fights their way through the rival gang members, with Brandon using his superhuman strength and expert marksmanship to take down multiple enemies.

As they escape the warehouse, Brandon is shot and left for dead by one of the rival gang members. In a surprising turn, Harry appears to betray his friend by ordering the other members to leave Brandon behind. The episode ends with Brandon's body being dumped in a river, as the audience is left wondering if he will survive or not.

Overall, "Destroyer in the Dusk" does an excellent job of setting up the world and characters of Gungrave. The episode's focus on the complex relationship between Harry and Brandon adds depth to their characters and makes their eventual falling out all the more impactful. The action scenes are well choreographed and exciting, with the use of superhuman abilities adding a unique flavor to the typical gangster shootouts.
