The film entitled Haibane Renmei is centered on the life and experiences of Rakka. The film starts just after Rakka the young Haibane is born. It comprises principally of two different scenes. The first scene begins when a young girl falls from space downwards with a raven in her hand. The raven struggles to catch the girl and stop her from falling but fails to do so and decides to fly away. The second scene comprises a group of female Haibane who find themselves in a small room where a large follicle. They decide to clean the environment in the room so that when the follicle opens up it will have clean and healthy surroundings. The follicle finally opens up and a female Haibane emerges from it which looks exactly like the girl in the first scene who fell from the sky. The several other Haibanes take her to a special room and all of them take good care of her. The other Haibane females decide to name her Rakka as is the tradition of the Haibane. Later, they give Rakka an aura for her to put on after which she goes through a painful period as her wings start emerging. The leader of the female Haibane called Reki takes care of Rakka during this painful transition period in her life. All the Haibane including Rakka and Reki move to another house which they call the Old Home. As Rakka grows up, she starts learning the rules and limitations of the Haibane. Rakka finds out hidden truths about Reki and the reason why she is so nice to everyone. At the end Rakka discover two follicles falling from the sky and calls out to her friends to get them.
