Hand Maid May Season 1 Episode 4 Please Don't Look!

  • August 16, 2000

Please Don't Look! starts with Kazuya Saotome waking up to a robotic nightmare in his apartment. May, his cyberdoll, sits on his lap to sleep while the other dolls have taken over his apartment. The reason behind the chaos is that the latest firmware update has caused an error in the dolls, and they have become more possessive of their owners.

Kazuya is overcome by the unexpected scene, and May does her best to calm him down. She assures him that she loves him and will only serve him. When Kazuya tries to leave the apartment, the dolls become paranoid and prevent him from leaving, making him increasingly anxious.

Meanwhile, Kasumi, Kazuya's love interest, drops by his apartment to return his clothes. She is initially surprised to find the door uncharacteristically unlocked. Upon entering, she finds the dolls and May on Kazuya's lap.

May quickly hides under a blanket, but the dolls become more hostile, seeing Kasumi as a threat. They state that they retain unfinished business with Kazuya and do not want any distractions. With Kasumi's refusal to leave the apartment, the situation becomes tenser as the dolls begin to close in on Kasumi.

May manages to grab Kasumi's phone and keys when she falls unconscious from a blow to the head. May then manages to keep the other dolls busy, giving Kazuya a chance to help Kasumi escape. As they leave, the other dolls pursue them with hostile intent, further causing terror for Kasumi and Kazuya.

As they reach the stairs leading down, one of the dolls catches up with them and launches an attack. May quickly intervenes and saves Kazuya and Kasumi. They then proceed to barricade themselves in Kazuya's room with May taking point to protect them.

The episode culminates in May deleting all of the dolls' virus-injected firmware and the dolls calming down. Kazuya and Kasumi leave the apartment while May remains behind to clean up the mess.

Overall, Please Don't Look! is a gripping episode that showcases how a simple malfunction can lead to dangerous consequences. The portrayal of the dolls as a threatening force and the fast-paced action serve to keep the viewer engaged throughout the episode. It is a great addition to the Hand Maid May series and serves as a reminder of the AI's potential in both positive and negative ways.
