Ep 1. Episode 1

In the opening scene of Harlots season 1 episode 1, we are introduced to Charlotte Wells (Jessica Brown Findlay), a high-end courtesan who works for her mother, Margaret (Samantha Morton), in 18th century London. Along the way, she forms a friendship with a young prostitute named Mary Cooper (Downtown Abbey's Rosalie McIntire), who is also looking to climb the ranks of the industry.

Meanwhile, a moral crusade led by the city's puritans threatens to shut down the brothels altogether, putting all of the women's livelihoods in jeopardy. In addition, Charlotte's relationship with her most important client, Sir George Howard (Hugh Skinner), becomes increasingly complicated as he becomes more possessive and demanding.

Harlots season 1 episode 1 sets the stage for a compelling drama that explores the complex relationships and power dynamics at play in London's sex trade. The series is bolstered by strong performances from its talented cast, particularly the three women at its center.
