Home Made Simple Season 9 Episode 5 Military Dad's Family

  • November 20, 2011

Home Made Simple is a show that follows inspiring families who need a little extra help in transforming their homes into a personalized retreat. In this ninth season episode titled "Military Dad's Family," we meet the Maynard family, who are currently residing in a small rental home while their father, a military serviceman, is deployed overseas.

The family consists of mom, Rachel, and her three children, Carter, Mason, and Addison. Since their move, the family has been struggling to make the rented space feel like home, and with three active kids, keeping the house tidy has been a constant challenge. The Maynard family is looking for help from Home Made Simple to turn their living space into a comfortable and functional home while staying true to their sense of style.

Interior designer, Laila Ali, works with the family to find a design that fits their needs and preferences. She quickly learns that the family enjoys rustic and farmhouse style, making it a focal point of the show. Laila transforms the living room by adding custom-built bookshelves, a rustic fireplace mantel, and new furniture to give the space a warm and inviting feel. The Maynard kids are thrilled to see their favorite family photos displayed as part of Laila's design, which brings a personal touch to the area.

In addition to the living room update, Laila renovates the dining room and kitchen. She creates a cozy dining area with a new table and chairs, while the kitchen is revamped with fresh paint, new countertops, and a custom-built island that adds both counter space and storage. Rachel is impressed by the clever design ideas Laila presents, and she quickly sees how these changes will not only add to the family's comfort but will also reduce the stress of daily living.

One of the highlights of the show is when the family meets up with DIY expert, Jeremiah Brent, to work on a special project in honor of their deployed father. The Maynard kids dream of having a backyard playhouse that will remind them of their father while he's away serving our country. Working side by side with Jeremiah, the kids build a playhouse that includes photos of their dad and special items that hold meaning for the family. When the playhouse is unveiled, the kids are overjoyed and excited to play in it, and Rachel is moved to tears by the thoughtful gesture.

Throughout the episode, the Home Made Simple team works hard to take a rental home and turn it into a personalized space that is comfortable and functional for the Maynard family. The show is heartwarming and relatable, with Laila and Jeremiah creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also have meaning for the family. The show is a tribute to all military families who sacrifice for our country, and it reminds viewers of the importance of creating welcoming homes filled with love.
