In the third episode of Home Town season 1 titled 'History in the Making', the hosts Ben and Erin Napier take us through a journey of renovating an old historic property. The house in question is a 1920s craftsman-style home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and plenty of character to work with.

As they step onto the property, Ben and Erin immediately see the potential in the historic home. They marvel at the tall ceilings, original hardwood floors, and the unique features that the house still maintains. Over time, the previous owners had made some updates to the home, but it still requires a lot of work to give it the charm and functionality the Napiers are aiming for.

The Napiers begin by discussing how they plan to improve the flow of the house. The current layout is somewhat choppy and disjointed, so they plan on opening up several walls to make the space feel more connected and functional. They also plan to add additional storage, which the house is currently lacking. The couple decides to reuse an old built-in bookshelf, which adds to the charm of the house and provides additional storage space. Erin and Ben also fix the original fireplace mantel and replace the surrounding tiles, giving the room a more modern and updated look.

In addition to the interior updates, the Napiers pay close attention to the exterior of the home, which had been neglected for many years. They notice that the front porch, which is a main feature of the house, has some structural issues that need to be addressed. Erin and Ben decide to add a new front door and paint the exterior of the house a light tan color to match the craftsman-style theme.

As they work on the house, the couple comes across some interesting historical artifacts that they decide to highlight in the final product. They discover old newspapers and other documents that were left behind by the previous owners. They keep some of these artifacts as a homage to the history of the house and the people who once lived there.

All throughout the renovation process, Erin and Ben work closely with the new owners to ensure that the house will meet their needs and style preferences. They ask them about their favorite colors, textures, and design elements, and work their preferences into the design where they can. The couple is ecstatic about their new home, and it's easy to see why.

At the end of the episode, the Napiers give us a final tour of the now beautifully renovated home. The open floor plan, new paint scheme, and modern updates make the house feel fresh while still maintaining its historic charm. All in all, Home Town season 1 episode 3 is a perfect example of Ben and Erin Napier’s eye for detail, thoughtful planning, and skill as designers and renovators.
