Ep 12. What Should Be Had

As soon as the Cultural Festival ends, the high school students start preparing for the closing ceremony. Houtarou realizes that it's time for graduation and starts to feel nostalgic about his school days. On the other hand, Eru is excited about the impending Christmas celebrations and starts planning for the same. However, their peaceful routine is disrupted by a strange incident that takes place in their school.

One morning, Houtarou and Eru are approached by Satoshi who tells them that his well-known baseball bat, Shaman, has been stolen. Upon hearing this, the two decide to help Satoshi and start investigating the case. They soon discover that the bat had been borrowed by an alumnus of the school who had come back for a visit. Their investigation leads them to a dead-end as no one seems to know who the alumnus was.

Later, they get another clue regarding the whereabouts of the alumnus and realize that he was a part of the classics club that existed before. Upon further inquiry, Houtarou learns that the classics club had been disbanded due to certain political issues. They also come to know that the members of the club had written a book together. Houtarou, with his keen deduction skills, realizes that the book was the key to solving the case.

The trio meets up with the former members of the classics club and inquires about the contents of the book. They find out that the book contained their opinions on what they felt was essential to have in life. Houtarou deduces that the bat must have been taken by the alumnus because he felt that it was something that was necessary for him to have in life.

The investigation takes a turn when the alumnus is seen walking around with another bat during a baseball match that he attends. Houtarou confronts him, and the alumnus admits to taking the bat, claiming that it held significant sentimental value for him. Houtarou advises him to return the bat to Satoshi, and the alumnus complies.

The episode comes to a close as the trio attends the closing ceremony of their school festival. Houtarou, who had been reminiscing about his school days earlier, realizes that he is going to miss the school and his friends. However, he is glad that they were able to solve the case of the stolen bat and bring peace to Satoshi's mind. The episode ends with Houtarou and Eru wishing each other a Merry Christmas.
