Jose is the ninth episode of the second season of I Used To Be Fat, a weight loss reality show following the lives of overweight teenagers as they work towards shedding the extra pounds before starting college.
In this episode, we meet Jose, a senior in high school who weighs 282 pounds. Jose's weight has been a source of struggle throughout his life, affecting his self-esteem and relationship with food. He admits to sneaking out at night to buy junk food and eating in secret.
Jose's trainer, Joey, quickly realizes that Jose's biggest challenge will be breaking his addiction to food. Joey puts him on a strict diet and exercise regimen, but Jose finds it difficult to stick to. He breaks down in tears during one training session, admitting that he doesn't know if he can do it.
Joey also meets with Jose's family to discuss their eating habits and how they can support Jose in his weight loss journey. They agree to start eating healthier meals as a family and to remove junk food from their house.
As the weeks go by, Jose starts to see progress on the scale and in his confidence. He begins to open up about his personal struggles, including his father's deportation and his own fears about not being able to afford college. Joey encourages him to use these challenges as motivation to keep pushing towards his weight loss goals.
In a heartwarming moment, Jose's entire community comes out to support him during a 5k race he participates in. He finishes the race with a smile on his face and a newfound sense of accomplishment.
By the end of the episode, Jose has lost a total of 60 pounds and is feeling confident in his ability to continue his weight loss journey. He thanks Joey and his family for their support and promises to continue working towards his goals.
