- April 5, 2005
Ichigo 100% is a romantic comedy anime that follows the story of Manaka Junpei, a high school student who is struggling to find his passion and purpose in life. He dreams of becoming a filmmaker and is constantly jotting down ideas for his future projects. However, he can never seem to follow through with them.
The first episode of Ichigo 100% is named "The Illusionary Strawberry Underwear" and begins with Manaka climbing up to the roof of his school to retrieve his notebook, which was blown away by the wind. While up there, he sees a girl's strawberry-patterned panties flapping in the breeze and he is instantly smitten. As he tries to chase after them, he slips and falls off the roof, only to be miraculously caught by the girl whose panties he was chasing after.
He later finds out that the girl's name is Toujou Aya, and she happens to be his classmate. She's a quiet and reserved girl, but Manaka soon learns that she is an amazing cook and enjoys reading shoujo manga. Manaka is thrilled, as he has always wanted to meet a girl who shares his love for manga. He takes this opportunity to invite her to the school's manga club, but she declines, saying that she is not interested in joining any clubs.
Meanwhile, Manaka's best friend, Nishino Tsukasa, also happens to be in love with him. She has had a crush on him since middle school, but has never had the courage to tell him. Nishino is spirited and outgoing, and often gets into arguments with Manaka over his tendency to daydream and not take his ideas seriously.
Later on, Manaka is invited to a school festival where he plans to enter his film into a student competition. However, he is disappointed to find out that his film has been disqualified, as it contains copyrighted material. As he wanders around the festival, he sees Aya working at a food stand. She tells him that she is happy to have the chance to get involved in the festival, even if it's not through a club.
Manaka then meets another girl named Kitaooji Satsuki, who seems to be very interested in him. Satsuki is a beautiful and charming upperclassman who is outgoing and confident. She quickly takes an interest in Manaka, which makes Nishino jealous.
The rest of the episode is a fun and exciting romantic comedy that follows Manaka as he tries to navigate his feelings for Aya, Nishino, and Satsuki.
