Inocente details the personal struggle and triumphant story of a 15 year old girl who has had a dark past of abuse, homelessness, and suicide. Her love of art has reinvigorated her life and has given her a place of refuge. Inocente's creativity and unwillingness to give up on her dream of being an artist takes precedent over everything else, including her dark past with her abusive father. Painting allows her to go to a happy place that defines her dreams. Inocente's journey began as a baby when her father gave her instructions to tell her mother to fix him some food. She went into the kitchen, but forgot to tell her mother what her father wanted because she got distracted and started playing by the fridge with her toys. Inocente's father got extremely angry with her and began beating her to the point that she thought he was going to kill her. Her mother stepped in to save her and he got mad and started beating her mother as well. Her mother Carmela, called the police and once he found out, he broke the phone over Carmela's head. The police comes and has to deport Inocente's father back to Mexico and Inocente and her mother run away with no home to go to. Inocente's journey and television show airs on MTV and chronicles her life and pursuit of happiness. The struggles with her mother wanting her to commit suicide together with her because of their unfortunate situation has put a dent in their relationship. Their constant moving around from shelter to shelter is wearing thin on a young teenage girl with high hopes and aspirations. Inocente manages to put on her first art show at an art gallery. With her hard work and vivid imagination, she was able to sell all her paintings and raise $12,000 dollars for her art and college fund.
