- April 9, 2001
Inuyasha Eng Dub season 1 episode 22, titled "The Soul of Kikyo," follows Inuyasha and the gang as they discover the truth behind Kikyo's death. In the previous episode, Kikyo's sister Kaede revealed that she had been the one to seal Inuyasha to the tree fifty years ago, and that Kikyo had died shortly after. However, Inuyasha is still determined to find Kikyo's soul and bring her back to life.
In this episode, Inuyasha and the others come across a priest named Hakushin, who has been guarding the Soul Collectors, powerful relics that can trap souls. Hakushin reveals that fifty years ago, Kikyo had asked him to use the Soul Collectors to trap her soul and keep it safe until Inuyasha could find it.
Inuyasha is overjoyed at the discovery and goes with Hakushin to retrieve Kikyo's soul. However, things don't go as planned when they are ambushed by a group of demons led by a powerful sorceress named Urasue. Urasue is obsessed with Kikyo and wants to resurrect her for her own purposes.
Inuyasha and Hakushin are able to fight off Urasue's minions, but Urasue herself proves to be a formidable opponent. Meanwhile, Kagome and the others are caught in a trap by Urasue's henchmen and must fight their way out.
In the end, Inuyasha is able to retrieve Kikyo's soul, but Urasue is still determined to resurrect her. She uses her powers to fuse Kikyo's soul with the bodies of several other dead women, creating a monstrous creature.
Inuyasha and the others are able to defeat the creature, but not before Kikyo's soul is pulled out of it. Inuyasha holds Kikyo's soul in his hands and apologizes for not being able to save her when she was alive. Kikyo's soul then dissipates, but not before Inuyasha catches a glimpse of Kikyo's human form.
The episode ends with Inuyasha and the others mourning for Kikyo, but also realizing that her soul is finally at peace. Inuyasha vows to keep fighting until he can defeat Naraku and make the world a safer place for everyone.
