As the group continues their journey to find the shards of the Shikon Jewel, they stumble upon a mysterious cave where they encounter a spider demon named Naraku. Inuyasha and the others soon discover that Naraku was once a human named Onigumo who made a pact with demons in exchange for power and immortality.
In this episode, we see the reveal of Onigumo's true identity and his twisted past. The episode opens with a flashback of Onigumo laying in a bed, badly burned and unable to move his lower body. He is visited by a young Kikyo, who he has grown infatuated with. He requests her help, but Kikyo informs him that his injuries are too severe for her to heal and leaves.
Feeling abandoned and alone, Onigumo begins to plot his revenge against Kikyo and becomes consumed by his desire for power. Unable to move, he uses his mind to summon demons and make deals with them. Through his bargaining, he becomes a vessel for the demons and gains the power to transform into a spider demon.
Flash forward to present day, and Inuyasha and his group find themselves face to face with Naraku, who they quickly realize is actually Onigumo. They begin to fight, and Inuyasha uses his Wind Scar attack to try and defeat him. However, Naraku is able to escape and retreats back to his lair.
As Inuyasha and the others regroup and plan their next move, we see a flashback of Naraku's past once again. This time, we see how he used his powers to manipulate and control other demons into doing his bidding. One of these demons is a woman named Izayoi, who he asks to bear him a child. She agrees, and their son is born - Inuyasha.
Back in present day, Onigumo begins to remember more of his past and starts to feel the weight of his guilt and regret. He remembers his obsession with Kikyo and how he betrayed her trust, ultimately leading to her death. With his memories restored, he realizes the error of his ways and tries to make amends.
The last scene of the episode shows Onigumo, now a frail and weak version of himself, meeting with Kikyo's reincarnation, Kagome. He asks for her forgiveness and tells her that his only wish is for her to defeat Naraku, the demon he created. Kagome agrees to help, and the two part ways.
Overall, this episode is a pivotal point in the series as it gives us a deeper understanding of the origins of Naraku and how he came to be. We also see the reintroduction of Kikyo's character and the role she will play in defeating Naraku. The episode is filled with action and drama, but also offers a reflective and emotional look at the consequences of one's actions and the power of redemption.
