In JAG season 4 episode 15, titled "Rivers' Run," the focus is on Commander Harmon Rabb Jr. and his investigation of a case that involves the death of a soldier. The soldier in question, Marine Private First Class Kyle Rivers, was found dead near a river in North Carolina. While his death was initially ruled a suicide, Rivers' mother and Rabb suspect foul play.

Rabb, however, is not officially assigned to the case. Instead, he is tasked with helping a navy lawyer, Lieutenant Lauren Singer, prepare for an upcoming trial. The trial involves the alleged theft of sensitive documents by a sailor named Petty Officer Second Class Ronnie Price. Despite his reservations, Rabb agrees to help Singer in order to gain access to the Rivers case.

As Rabb delves deeper into the Rivers case, he discovers a number of inconsistencies in the official investigation. He also learns that Rivers was homosexual, something that was not widely accepted in the military at the time. Rabb begins to suspect that Rivers may have been the victim of a hate crime, and sets out to find evidence to support his theory.

Meanwhile, Singer is struggling with the theft case. Price denies the theft, and Singer has been unable to find any concrete evidence to support the charges. Her frustration is compounded by the fact that her superior, Admiral Chegwyn, seems more interested in securing a conviction than in pursuing justice. Despite these obstacles, Singer refuses to give up on the case.

As the trial approaches, Rabb makes a breakthrough in the Rivers case. He discovers that Rivers had a romantic relationship with another soldier, and that this soldier may have been involved in his death. Rabb confronts the soldier, who confesses to killing Rivers in a fit of rage. Thanks to Rabb's intervention, Rivers' family is able to get the justice they deserve.

In the end, Singer and Rabb both achieve the outcomes they were seeking. Price is found not guilty of theft, and Rabb is able to bring Rivers' killer to justice. The episode ends with Rabb acknowledging that his involvement in the Rivers case was not entirely selfless, and that he was motivated in part by a desire to do what he felt was right.
