Detective Inspector Richard Poole, a workaholic crime-solver from London, is still adjusting to life on the beautiful but stiflingly hot Caribbean island of Saint Marie. He is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that he has been posted to an island he hates, but his new team of hard-working police officers are keen to show him the ropes.

In this episode, the team investigates the murder of a local reporter. Poole is initially dismissive of the importance of the case, seeing the victim as just another journalist trying to find a story, but he soon realizes that there are greater forces at play. The investigation leads them to a Caribbean politician who had been under investigation by the victim, and it is clear that there are many people who would have had reason to silence the reporter.

With the help of his trusted sidekick, Dwayne, and the beautiful Camille, Poole begins to piece together the clues that will ultimately lead them to the killer.
