DI Richard Poole and his team are called to investigate a murder on the island of Saint Marie in Episode 2 of Death in Paradise's second season.
Following rehearsals for a "murder mystery" themed party, the body of a party guest is discovered in a locked room. Everyone at the party, including the victim, was dressed in period costumes and wearing masks, which complicates the investigation, as the suspect could be anyone.
As the investigation progresses, the team quickly realizes that the victim was not the intended target. The actual murderer's next target is still in danger, and they must act quickly to find them before it's too late.
As usual, the vibrant backdrop of Saint Marie plays a significant role in the investigation, adding to the island's already intriguing atmosphere and making the show all the more captivating for viewers.
Throughout the episode, the team draw on their individual strengths to piece together the evidence. Their formidable detective skills are tested to the limit as they sift through red herrings and witness testimonies in search of the truth.
Meanwhile, DI Poole struggles with his own personal demons. Still acclimating to island life, he continues to struggle with the sun and sea, longing for the relative tranquility of his former life in London. But his past comes back to haunt him when someone from his previous life shows up on the island and threatens to disturb his newfound peace.
Despite this personal turmoil, Poole remains focused on the investigation, and his team respect him for his unwavering commitment to solving the crime.
As the episode reaches its climax, viewers are left on the edge of their seats as the killer's identity is finally revealed. With the murderer in custody, justice is served, and the team can breathe a sigh of relief. Yet as the credits roll, viewers are left feeling eager for more.
