He tries unsuccessfully to get Juanpis to see beyond his own narcissism. Other characters include Juanita, Juanpis' patient assistant; Monuca, his superficial gold-digger girlfriend; and his pretentious mother Doña Sofia.

Much of the show's humor comes from Juanpis finding himself in everyday situations that he is hilariously ill-equipped to handle. Simple tasks like riding the bus, shopping at a supermarket, or waiting in line frustrate and confuse Juanpis. His encounters with regular Colombians who don't fawn over him shock Juanpis. The show also satirizes Colombia's class divides by contrasting Juanpis' elitist worldview with the lives of working class characters.

While Juanpis is an unlikable and ridiculous character, Alejandro Riaño's committed performance makes him funny and almost sympathetic at times. The character grew out of Riaño's popular Juanpis Gonzalez sketches on his comedy show. The Television adaptation expands the world of Juanpis while retaining the incisive, cringe-inducing social commentary that made the original sketches a hit.
