- August 23, 2005
In Kamichu! season 1 episode 7, titled "Lovers of the Sun," the story follows Yurie, a middle school student who recently became a god, as she struggles to balance her newfound powers and responsibilities with her everyday life.
One day, on her way to school, Yurie runs into her classmate, Kenji, who informs her that their school is planning to hold a cultural festival. He asks if Yurie would like to help out, but she declines, citing her lack of interest in such events.
Back at school, Yurie's friend Mitsue and her crush Matsuri are discussing their plans for the festival, which include a play that Matsuri wrote. However, they are having trouble finding someone to play the lead role.
Meanwhile, Yurie's grandmother, Mitama, pays her a visit and convinces her to attend a local festival with her. At the festival, Yurie meets a couple who tells her the story of the Sun God and Moon Goddess, who are forced to spend their days apart from each other. Moved by their story, Yurie decides to help Mitsue and Matsuri by playing the lead role in their play.
As Yurie rehearses for the play, she realizes that the story is very similar to the Sun God and Moon Goddess' tale told to her earlier. This inspires Yurie to add her own twist to the play, giving it a more romantic and emotional storyline.
On the day of the festival, Yurie gives a heartwarming performance as the lead role, earning her the applause and admiration of the audience. After the play, Yurie reunites Kenji with his crush, Miko, and they all enjoy the rest of the festival together.
This episode touches on themes of love, sacrifice, and the power of storytelling. It showcases Yurie's growing understanding of her role as a god, as well as her empathy towards her fellow humans.
