After her narrow escape from the house where she was being held captive, Teresa flees to the countryside to regroup and find a way to cross into Mexico. She seeks refuge in the home of a kind old man named Don Epifanio, who lives alone on a ranch with his dog Cucaracha. Despite the language barrier, the two develop a fondness for each other, and Teresa learns some basic survival skills from him.

Meanwhile, the drug lord Epifanio Vargas is hot on Teresa's trail and dispatches his men to find her at any cost.
