In the premiere episode of Life Below Zero season 11 titled "Changing of the Guard," viewers are reintroduced to the harsh Alaskan wilderness and those who call it home. Sue Aikens, the sole resident of the Kavik River Camp, is shown battling against the brutal cold as she prepares for the imminent arrival of winter. With only herself to rely on, Sue must ensure that her camp is properly winterized and that she has enough supplies to last through the long, dark months ahead.
Meanwhile, the Hailstone family is gearing up for the fall hunt, gathering supplies and prepping their sled dogs for the journey deep into the wilderness. Elsewhere, Ricko DeWilde, a native Gwich'in, is shown working to preserve his tribe's traditional way of life. As an advocate for the protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Ricko is fighting against the encroachment of modern society and the potential destruction of his people's way of life.
Finally, we see Chip and Agnes Hailstone, who have returned to their home in Noorvik after several years spent living in the bush. As they settle back into their old routines, they must adjust to the changes that have taken place in their absence, including a new generation of hunters and a renewed focus on subsistence living.
