Ep 5. Battle of the Bands

Derek and Casey are gearing up for Battle of the Bands, a school event where various student bands compete against each other to win a spot opening for a popular band at a major concert. Derek's band, The Venturis, and Casey's band, The D-Rockers, are both competing and the competition will be fierce.

As the siblings try to outdo each other in the lead up to the competition, tensions run high and they begin to interfere with each other's rehearsals. Casey is frustrated with Derek's lack of commitment to the band and his overall behavior, while Derek can't stand Casey's bossiness and refusal to let him have creative input.

Meanwhile, other members of the families are getting involved in the competition. Edwin and Lizzie are fans of The D-Rockers and try to help them with their performance, while Marti is excited to be the host of the event. Nora, their mother, is in charge of the refreshments and gets heated when she finds out the vending machines are out of order.

The episode culminates in the Battle of the Bands, where the siblings' competition comes to a head. The Venturis start off strong with an energetic performance, but quickly lose momentum when Derek's guitar solo goes on too long. The D-Rockers have a more polished performance, but Casey forgets the lyrics halfway through the song.

In the end, the judges announce that The D-Rockers have won the competition. While Derek is initially upset, he comes to realize that he was more focused on beating Casey than creating great music. Casey, on the other hand, realizes that she was so focused on being the leader that she didn't listen to the rest of her band's ideas.

The episode ends with the family bonding over their shared love of music, and Derek and Casey even agreeing to collaborate on a song together.
