- April 5, 2004
Madlax is an anime television series produced by Bee Train and follows the story of two women, Margaret Burton and Madlax, both living in contrasting worlds, yet their paths would soon cross in the most unexpected way.
The first episode of Madlax season 1 starts with a young girl named Margaret Burton, who lives in the most luxurious and homey place in Gazth-Sonika. Margaret Burton is born under a wealthy and prominent family and is caught up in a life of privilege and isolation due to her family's status in society. While living in wealth, Margaret feels empty, and her only hobby is writing letters to her father, who is not present in her life. Looking for something to entertain herself, she sneaks off to the city market, where she stumbles upon a mysterious CD containing a music piece titled "Gun dance-dance." With curiosity, she buys it and sneaks back into the mansion and listens to the mysterious tune.
The scene then moves to Madlax, who is seen in an abandoned and decaying building in the war-torn country of Gazth-Sonika. Madlax is a soldier named "Madlax the Gun," where she uses her incredible shooting skills to get her out of life-threatening situations. In the scene, we see Madlax only starting her day by killing a group of enemy soldiers while dodging their bullets with expert precision. Madlax's personality is exposed as she has an emotionless and robotic personality, which is seen when she returns to her hideout to prepare for her next mission.
Back at Margaret's mansion, she continues to play the mysterious tune until she falls into a deep sleep. During her sleep, she has a vision, which appears to take her to a world unlike any she has ever seen before. Margaret appears to be walking through a wasteland with soldiers and weapons scattered everywhere.
Meanwhile, Madlax is on a mission to collect a book; however, the book is yet to be found. She steals a uniform from a fallen enemy and infiltrates a military base that holds the book. She is soon discovered by a group of soldiers, which leads to a fierce gunfight.
Back at Margaret's mansion, she wakes up from her sleep but can still feel the impact of the dream. She later finds out that the CD belonged to a popular singer named Elenore, who happens to be missing. Curiosity takes the better part of Margaret, and she decides to find out all that she can about Elenore.
The story then shifts back to Madlax, who has managed to retrieve the book during the fight. She is now on her way to deliver the book to her employer. However, while on her way to the drop-off location, her car is attacked by a group of soldiers. Madlax's expert shooting skills help her fend off her attackers.
The episode ends with Margaret practicing her marksmanship, and she appears to have a natural talent for shooting. From the looks of the episode, it appears that Margaret's and Madlax's paths will cross in some way, and it is safe to say that episode 2 will answer some of the questions raised in the first episode.
Overall, Madlax episode one titled "Gun Dance -dance-" is an exciting and action-packed episode that sets the stage for the entire first season. The story introduces us to the two main protagonists and exposes us to the contrasting worlds that they live in. While the episode raises several questions and leaves a lot to the imagination, it provides enough to keep the viewer engaged and excited about the rest of the season.
