Ep 2. Family Edition: The Pop Star Always Wins
- October 18, 2019
In this episode of Marriage Boot Camp season 15, titled "Family Edition: The Pop Star Always Wins," the four couples continue their journey towards healing their relationships with the help of their families. The main focus of this episode is on Amina Buddafly and her estranged husband Peter Gunz, who are both musicians, and their ongoing struggle to co-parent their two young children.
Amina and Peter have been separated for over two years, with Amina now living in Los Angeles and Peter in New York. Despite their separation, they still bicker and argue about everything, from custody to communication. In this episode, they are forced to confront their issues head-on in a therapy session, with the added pressure of their respective mothers watching from the sidelines.
As the session begins, Amina and Peter both express their frustrations over how they communicate with each other. Amina accuses Peter of being dismissive and not listening to her concerns, while Peter defends himself by saying that Amina doesn't give him a chance to speak. Their mothers chime in, with Amina's mother expressing her disappointment in Peter's behavior and Peter's mother telling Amina to be more supportive of Peter's career aspirations.
Things escalate quickly when the topic of custody comes up. Amina breaks down in tears, explaining that she wants to have a stable home for her children but Peter's constant traveling makes it difficult. Peter insists that he needs to work in order to provide for his family and accuses Amina of using their children as an excuse to keep him away. The therapists try to mediate, but it seems like Amina and Peter are at an impasse.
Meanwhile, the other couples are also dealing with their own family drama. De'Von Waller and his fiancée, Raiven Adams, have a heart-to-heart with their mothers about their past traumas and how it's affecting their relationship. De'Von's mother reveals that he witnessed her being physically abused by his father, which has contributed to his fear of commitment and trust issues. Raiven's mother opens up about her drug addiction and how it's affected her ability to be a good parent.
Tahiry Jose and Vado are still struggling to communicate effectively, with Vado's sister joining them in therapy to provide some perspective. She tells Tahiry that she needs to be more understanding of Vado's upbringing and the emotional baggage he carries from it. Tahiry responds by saying that she's tired of making excuses for Vado's behavior and wants him to take responsibility for his actions.
Finally, Willie Taylor and Shanda Denyce are trying to repair their marriage after Willie's infidelity, with the help of their children. They have a touching conversation with their daughter about the importance of forgiveness and second chances, and Willie makes a heartfelt apology to his wife for the pain he's caused.
Overall, "Family Edition: The Pop Star Always Wins" is an emotional episode that delves deep into the family dynamics of each couple. While some are making progress, others seem to be stuck in their old patterns of behavior. It remains to be seen if they can overcome their issues and come out stronger on the other side.
