In the premiere of Married at First Sight season 1, titled "Matchmaking," six singles from the New York City area are chosen by a team of experts to take part in an unconventional experiment. The experts include a sociologist, a sexologist, a psychologist, and a spiritual adviser who will analyze the candidates' backgrounds, personalities, and preferences in order to match the most compatible couples.

After each candidate is interviewed and tested, the experts use their scientific methods to narrow down the pool to three pairs of potential spouses. Each person is then presented with a summary of their chosen partner's character traits and interests, before agreeing to exchange vows with someone they've never met before - completely and legally binding.

The episode then follows the three couples as they prepare for their big day while grappling with their doubts and anxieties. They each have 10 weeks of filming to see if their marriages will be lasting and successful.

The first couple, Doug and Jamie, both come from Catholic backgrounds and are anxious about their upcoming nuptials. Doug is a salesman who feels that he's always the one putting in more work in his past relationships, while Jamie is a nurse with a history of dating cheaters. Nevertheless, they both feel excited and hopeful about taking the plunge.

The second couple, Cortney and Jason, are drawn to each other's good looks and adventurous spirits. Cortney is a creative soul and flight attendant who wants to meet someone who can match her fun-loving energy. Jason, a corporate banker, admits that he's picky when it comes to women and has only been in a few serious relationships in the past.

The third couple, Monet and Vaughn, have their qualms from the start. Monet is a successful professional with trust issues who's wary of Vaughn's unconventional job as an English teacher who moonlights as a rapper. Vaughn is also unsure if Monet is the right fit for him, admitting that he's been used to dating women who are less independent.

As the wedding day draws nearer, the couples have less and less time to make their final decisions. The families and friends of the participants are supportive, but also apprehensive about the unconventional matches. The viewers are left wondering if the couples will be successful in their marriages or if the experiment will end in disaster.

Overall, the first episode of Married at First Sight season 1 sets the stage for an exciting and controversial reality TV show that seeks to answer the age-old question of whether love can be found at first sight. With three diverse couples taking part in an audacious social experiment, viewers can look forward to watching the highs and lows of the human experience unfold on their screens.
