Ep 12. Bad Influence

Melissa & Joey season 3 episode 12, titled "Bad Influence", follows the comical and familial dynamic of Melissa and Joey as they navigate through their responsibilities as guardians and as working individuals in their careers.

The episode begins with Mel trying to get Lennox to go to college, requesting Joey's help in the matter. Meanwhile, Joey is dealing with an ankle injury, which he incurred from falling off a ladder. This minor setback puts him on crutches and becomes a source of humor for the audience throughout the episode.

As Mel and Joey discuss Lennox's college options, they realize that she is exploring non-traditional paths to success and are hesitant to tell her not to follow her dreams. Mel ends up thinking that she should let the universe decide, which prompts Joey to show her a coin tossing trick he learned from his father. Later on, they head to an open house at Lennox's school and meet the perfect candidate for a student advisor: a Harvard-educated student named Jason. However, things quickly take a turn for the worst when Mel and Joey find out that Jason is a pothead.

The rest of the episode sees Mel and Joey struggling with whether they should tell Lennox the truth about Jason or let her figure it out on her own. The dilemma becomes more complicated for the couple when Lennox begins to idolize Jason and his relaxed and carefree attitude. Mel and Joey's comedic banter and opposing views provide some excellent moments throughout the episode, such as when Joey argues that it's better for Lennox to experience things on her own rather than being sheltered.

As Mel and Joey contemplate their next move, they both find different ways to try and persuade Lennox away from her admiration of Jason. However, they both end up making things worse when Lennox misunderstands them and feels like she's being manipulated. This leads to an argument between Lennox and Mel, where she accuses Mel of always trying to control her life. In the end, Mel and Joey decide to sit down with Lennox and explain the truth about Jason and his lifestyle.

"Bad Influence" tackles the issue of growing up and following one's dreams but at the same time, shying away from negative influences that might threaten their success. The episode highlights Melissa and Joey's role in guiding their children and the struggles that come with making hard decisions. As always, the episode provides plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments that make Melissa & Joey a comfortable and entertaining watch.
